LEATHER In 2014, ECCO Leather experienced rapid growth, with an increase in turnover of 24%, bringing the Leather Group’s turnover above EUR 100m. One of the most positive developments in 2014 was that the three ECCO tanneries – in the Netherlands, Indonesia, and Thailand – were Gold Rated by the Leather Working *URXS/:*7KLVLVDQLQWHUQDWLRQDOFHUWLÀFDWLRQJLYHQWR tanneries that meet the exacting LWG standards. ECCO’s tannery in Xiamen was Silver Rated, and also achieved VLJQLÀFDQWO\KLJKHUVWDQGDUGVIRUZDVWHZDWHUWUHDWPHQW and discoloration. ,QWKH1HWKHUODQGVVLJQLÀFDQWLQYHVWPHQWVZHUHPDGHLQ new tanning drums, and these have contributed to higher quality, and reduced energy consumption. (&&2·VQHZWDQQHU\LQWKH1HWKHUODQGVEXLOWVSHFLÀFDOO\ for the production of high-quality leathers for the luxury goods industry, continued its successful development. In 2014, ECCO Leather hosted the annual HotShops event in the Netherlands. This 3-day laboratory allows participants to work in integrated teams to prototype new leathers. One of the newly created leathers was the heat-sensitive Kromatafor, which responds to changes in temperature by changing colour. This leather challenges the limitations of conventional leather performance, and demonstrates ECCO Leather’s continuing ability to produce major innovations. ECCO also hosted a Leather Factory Petit in Oslo, Norway, which increased awareness of the “ECCO Leather” story, and the ECCO brand. Finally, in 2014, ECCO opened an advanced leathercutting plant in China. ECCO is among the world’s biggest producers of high-quality leather, and supplies several of the world’s leading luxury brands. ECCO Annual Report 2014 35
