COMMUNITY RELATIONS POLICY 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 Purpose This policy supports commitment 1 in the ECCO Code of Conduct: “ECCO is a guest in each of the countries in which it operates and respects the local culture.” The purpose of this policy is to encourage ownership, commitment and adherence to all levels of the business and to provide framework for establishing and reviewing community relations objectives. 1.2 Scope This Policy applies to all ECCO Group entities. 2. POLICY STATEMENT 2.1 Community Relations Policy ECCO considers itself a guest in the countries where it operates, always respects local cultures, and seeks to comply with all relevant laws and regulations. ECCO considers itself a member of the local communities. Over many years, close cooperations have developed between these communities and ECCO. Most importantly, ECCO offers employment opportunities to the communities. In several locations, first, second, and third generations of families have worked with ECCO. ECCO aims to offer good job opportunities, lifelong education, fair salaries, and high job security. ECCO seeks to provide job opportunities for physically challenged people. ECCO contributes directly to local community life in various ways. For example, ECCO sponsors renovation of schools and villages, funds school programmes, and supports free medical services. ECCO also participates in local charitable work. All these activities and donations are funded by ECCO and, as a principle, ECCO never seeks favours in return. ECCO supports employee activities. Where ECCO employees spend their own time on community work, ECCO supports effective projects financially, and encourages its employees to engage with the local communities. 37
